Panthers show Lakers no mercy in 12-8 win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team extended its three-game winning streak by breaking open a 7-7 tie in the fourth quarter to beat Mercyhurst College 12-8 at the Allred Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon.

WWPA Player of the Week Chase Parlee was quiet throughout the first half but scored the go-ahead goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter to give Chapman an 8-7 lead and spark a 5-1 run to close out the game.

Chapman (9-8) pulled out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, only to see Mercyhurst even the game 4-4 by halftime.

Mercyhurst (12-5) led just twice in the game with its first lead coming in the first minute of the second half on senior driver Kane Ashton's goal making the score 5-4. The team's traded scores throughout the third quarter before junior utility Pierre Masson netted the game-tying goal to make it 7-7. Mercyhurst has now lost two games in a row after winning its previous 10 matches.

Senior utility Stephen Neville led the Panthers' attack with four goals in the match, followed by senior utility Matt Siordia and Masson who each netted two scores.  Sophomore goalie Taylor Roszkos recorded 14 saves for the Panthers.

Chapman travels to Loyola Marymount, UCLA, and Caltech before returning home to host Vanguard University for Senior Night on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
