Led by four-time award winner senior Pierre Masson, a total of nine Chapman University men’s water polo players have been named to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team for the 2011-2012 school year.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team climbed to No. 7 overall in team grade point average in the nation according to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The Panthers earned a combined GPA of 3.139 for the 2011 season – up from No. 16 and a GPA of 2.997 from last year.

Once again, a school-record number of Chapman University men’s water polo players have been named to the 2011 Division III All-America team as named by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

The Chapman University men’s water polo team went 2-1 at the Western Water Polo Association Championships at UC San Diego over the weekend to finish in ninth place overall. In the process, the Panthers set the school record for most wins in a season with their 15th victory of the year in a 7-5 decision over Whittier College in the ninth-place game on Saturday afternoon.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team will make its fourth consecutive appearance at the Western Water Polo Association Championships from Nov. 17-20, hosted by UC San Diego. The No. 9-seeded Panthers earned their highest seed yet in the 12-team field and will face No. 8 University of Redlands on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Canyonview Aquatics Center.

Chapman University sophomore Brett Carter has earned All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) honors for the 2011 season. Playing the 2-meter, Carter led the Panthers with 53 goals this season and helped Chapman to a 13-13 overall record in the regular season.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team had upset on its mind on Sunday afternoon, but in the end nationally-ranked Santa Clara University pulled ahead for an 11-9 win over the Panthers on ‘Senior Day’ at the Allred Olympic Pool.

A career-high five goals by sophomore 2M-D Brett Carter – including the game-winner – propelled the Chapman University men’s water polo team to an 11-10 win over Vanguard University in four overtimes on Friday afternoon at the Allred Aquatics Center.

Offense comes through in the fourth; Panthers beat No. 9 Whittier

Four fourth-quarter goals by the Chapman University men’s water polo team were just enough for the Panthers to defeat visiting Whittier College 9-8 at the Allred Olympic Pool on Saturday evening. With the scored tied 5-5 after three quarters, No. 6 Chapman (12-11) took the lead for good with three straight goals then held on for the victory.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team has never beaten the University of Redlands. On Saturday the Panthers took a 9-8 lead into halftime, but were held to just three second half goals as Redlands prevailed once again 14-12 at the Allred Olympic Pool.

Chapman University freshman driver Mark Alvarado has been named Co-Player of the Week by the Western Water Polo Association. It is the first weekly honor the Panthers have captured this season and the first since Chase Parlee earned the honor last October.
