Fall athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport for the fall season. Leading the way for the Panthers was football, which garnered 15 honorees. In all, there were 49 Panthers recognized which ranked third among the nine SCIAC institutions.

Men's water polo pair earns All-America honors

A pair of Chapman University men’s water polo All-Conference selections have now been named to the 2014 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America Team in an announcement made Tuesday. Senior driver Mark Alvarado and senior utility Jake Gross, who each received All-SCIAC recognition in December, received the honors after leading the Panthers to a school-record 17 wins and No. 3 Division III ranking.

Pair of fall athletes earn SCIAC sportsmanship honors

A pair of Chapman University seniors have earned sportsmanship honors as part of the SCIAC’s fall sports postseason awards. Panthers’ volleyball player Andi Frisina and men’s water polo player Drew Moyer were named to their respective All-Conference Sportsmanship teams for the 2014 season.

The Chapman University men's water polo team had two players selected to the All-Conference team in an announcement made by the SCIAC office on Wednesday. Senior utility Jake Gross and senior driver Mark Alvarado were named to the All-SCIAC men's water polo first and second teams, respectively.

Panthers defeat Bulldogs in battle for third at SCIAC Postseason Tournament

November 23, 2014

The No. 3-seed Chapman University men’s water polo team defeated the to No.4-seed and host University of Redlands 11-10 in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Aquatics Center in Redlands. The Panthers finished the season third place in conference and third in the tournament, which is a program best, going 2-1 on the weekend.

The Chapman University men's water polo team saw its SCIAC championship and NCAA playoff hopes come to an abrupt end on Saturday. No. 2-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps led from start to finish and defeated the No. 3 seeded Panthers 10-7 at the Thompson Aquatics Center in Redlands.

Men's water polo advances to SCIAC semifinals

The Chapman University men's water polo team advanced to the SCIAC Championships semifinals with a 9-4 win over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at Thompson Aquatics Center in Redlands on Friday. The No. 3-seeded Panthers advanced to face No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 11:45 a.m.

USA Water Polo came to Chapman University last month to spend some time getting to know Panther sophomore Wilson Parnell. Parnell has been a key member of the Chapman water polo team during its record run of 11 straight wins this season and No. 3 seed heading into the SCIAC Championships which begin on Friday. Parnell is also an amputee and has been so since his childhood, playing water polo with a prosthetic leg. Hear Wilson's story through his own words in this USA Water Polo video feature.

Alvarado gets goal No. 200 as Panthers clinch third seed in SCIAC

The Chapman University men’s water polo team equaled the program record with its 15th win of the season, handing visiting Caltech an 18-8 defeat at the Allred Pool on Saturday. The Panthers have now won 12 of their past 14 games and clinched the No. 3 seed in next weekend’s SCIAC Championships with the win.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team extended its win streak to 10 on the road Wednesday and in the process, notched career coaching win No. 100 for Panthers’ head coach Eric Ploessel. Division III’s No. 2-ranked Chapman defeated Occidental College 15-8 at Taylor Pool to keep the Panthers undefeated in conference play.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team, previously tied with University of Redlands at No. 2 by DIII Men’s Water Polo Rankings, upset the Bulldogs with a 10-6 victory at Allred Pool on Wednesday. This was the Panthers eighth win a row and second victory over Redlands this season.

Six goals in the second quarter turned the game around for the Chapman University men’s water polo team, which propelled the Panthers to a 12-9 win over visiting Concordia University in a non-conference battle between a pair of teams on the cusp of the national top-20 rankings.

Water polo wins fifth straight to climb over .500 in home debut

It took four weeks of waiting, but the Chapman University men’s water polo team finally played its first home game of the season and it was worth the while as the Panthers defeated visiting Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) 13-10 at the Allred Pool on Sunday morning. The win was Chapman’s fifth in a row after taking four straight at the Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
