Panthers rally to defeat Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University men's water polo team rallied to defeat Caltech 14-6 at Allred Pool on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers come from behind victory was Chapman's first SCIAC victory of the season moving Chapman to 1-1 in SCIAC play.

Trailing 2-0 the Panthers rallied with four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Chapman tacked on three more goals in the second quarter to earn a 7-3 lead heading into halftime. Freshman Cameron Genetti led the Panther come back with a pair of goals in the first half.

Chapman junior Louis Campbell scored on a man-up advantage to lift the score to 9-3 with less than a minute in the third quarter. The Panthers ran away with victory in the fourth quarter going on a 5-3 run to earn Chapman's first home victory of the season.

Campbell led the Panthers with a hat-trick scoring on 3-of-4 of his shots, while Genetti helped the Panthers with three steals in the match.

Senior Ian Decker led the Panther defense in the first three quarters, allowing just four goals and recording seven blocks in the match.

The Panthers will host La Verne on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. looking to build on Wednesday's victory. Chapman will then take its next five matches on the road before returning home for the Panthers senior match on Nov. 12.
