Panthers capture sixth in the SCIAC Championship Tournament

PASADENA, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team finished sixth at the SCIAC Championship Tournament after going 2-2 on the weekend. The Panthers fell to No. 8 Cal Lutheran 11-8 on Sunday morning in the fifth place match to earn sixth overall.

Junior Jeff O'Brien recorded his fourth multi-goal game of the tournament scoring a game-high five. Senior Corey Plaster recorded a pair of goals for the Panthers and tallied two earned ejections.

Trailing 5-2 at the end of the first half, the Panther offense fought to keep Chapman in the match. The Panthers went goal for goal with the Kingsmen in the third quarter, matching Cal Lutheran's three goals to push the score to 8-5.

The Kingsmen pulled away in the fourth quarter edging the Panthers 9-5, after forcing three turnovers and scoring on their first drive of the period. Chapman found the back of the net two more times with goals form O'Brien and Plaster to keep Chapman in the match 9-7.

With less than two minutes left in the match the Kingsmen drove in two more scores and gave up just one to solidify the fifth place match victory.

The Panthers conclude their season 6-20 overall and 3-7 in SCIAC play.
