Sixteen Panthers land All-Academic Honors
ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University men's water polo team continued its commitment toward academic distinction securing another year on the grade-point average leaderboard. The Panthers earned a collective GPA of 3.02 during the 2016 season after 16 student-athletes recorded a GPA higher than a 3.2 to earn All-Academic honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).
For seven Panthers this was their second consecutive year receiving recognition. Last season, Chapman landed a program-best 17 on the ACWPC's list of Academic Awards.
The ACWPC All-Academic Awards are broken down into three levels based on GPA. A student-athlete with a GPA between 3.71 and 4.0 is "Outstanding. In their first year as student-athletes, rookies John Macdonald, Eric Sichak, and Cameron Genetti topped the "Outstanding" honors.
Four Panthers followed with a "Superior" GPA ranging from 3.41 to 3.70. Three of those student-athletes are freshmen Jared Bernardi, Peter Dales and Nick Parino. Junior Wilson Parnell also received "Superior" honors, improving from "Excellent" in the 2016 season.
Finally, Chapman had nine student-athletes recognized as "excellent" for maintaining a GPA between a 3.20 and a 3.40: senior Ian Decker, juniors Christopher Garau and Louis Campbell, sophomores Michael Garcia and Justin Cooper and freshmen Keith Kulick, Jack Hocker, Trent Sokol, and Ivan Shikhelman,
A total of 357 athletes were named to the team with the ACWPC awarding 86 Outstanding, 135 Superior and 136 Excellent accolades.
