Record number of student-athletes achieve academic distinction

Chapman University student-athletes raised the bar with a record number of 220 SCIAC All-Academic selections for the 2017-18 school year. This year marks the first time in Chapman’s six-year history in the SCIAC that more than 200 Panthers were included on the All-Academic teams.

Chapman University Athletics announced its annual senior departmental awards at the jog-a-thon on Friday afternoon. The Panthers awarded male and female Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards as well as male and female Leadership Awards.

10 members of the Chapman University men’s water polo team were named to the 2017 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Scholar-Athlete Team this afternoon.
Trio selected to All-America team

A trio of men’s water polo players were named to the 2017 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Men’s Division III All-America Team on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Jeff O’Brien headlined the selections with a spot on the First Team, while junior Kevin Dayan and sophomore Wesley Hertel received Honorable Mentions.

Two members of the Chapman University men’s water polo team were selected to the All-SCIAC team on Thursday morning following a vote from the head coaches. Senior Jeff O’Brien headlined the selections with a spot on the first team, while junior Kevin Dayan earned a spot on the second team.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team rolled to an 18-9 victory over Caltech (8-15, 2-11 SCIAC) on its annual senior night on Wednesday night. The Panthers (14-12, 10-3 SCIAC) were led by the six seniors who were honored at the start of the match.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team dropped a hard-fought match 12-9 to Whittier (15-11, 11-2 SCIAC) this morning. The Panthers (13-12, 9-3 SCIAC) were led on offense by junior Brady Hoskins, who recorded a hat trick.
Royce's OT goal lifts men's water polo to fifth straight win

Another match at Allred Pool went into overtime and the Chapman University men’s water polo team came away with another victory. The Panthers (12-11, 8-2 SCIAC) defeated the visiting Redlands Bulldogs 11-10 with the only goal in the second overtime period.

Freshman Hunter Ramaekers hit back-to-back goals in the second overtime period to lift the Chapman University men’s water polo team to a crucial 12-9 win over visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Ramaekers equaled his career-best with three goals in the match.

Three different players scored three goals to lift the Chapman University men’s water polo team to a 13-9 comeback win over visiting Cal Lutheran on Saturday. The Panthers (5-8, 3-1 SCIAC) dominated the even quarters to come away with the victory.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team earned its first SCIAC win tonight when they beat No. 10 La Verne 15-9. Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Hertel recorded a career-high 16 blocks in the net for the Panthers.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team fell 11-6 to No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday morning. Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Hertel put up a fight against the nationally-ranked Sagehens, tallying eight blocks and one steal in 32 minutes.
O'Brien's big numbers earn him SCIAC nod

ORANGE, Calif. - Senior Jeff O’Brien has led the Chapman men’s water polo team in offensive statistics throughout the first nine games of the 2017 season. The Newport Beach native has tallied 17 goals this year, giving him a 1.88 goal per game average.
