O’Brien and Dayan selected to All-SCIAC

ORANGE, Calif. – Two members of the Chapman University men's water polo team were selected to the All-SCIAC team on Thursday morning following a vote from the head coaches. Senior Jeff O'Brien headlined the selections with a spot on the first team, while junior Kevin Dayan earned a spot on the second team.

O'Brien is leaving his name in the record books at Chapman in his final year. The center has taken 517 shots in his career and scored 218 goals, ranking third overall in Chapman history in both categories. O'Brien's 76 goals this season, 45 of which he has tallied against SCIAC teams, rank second in the SCIAC to La Verne's Rey Julian Castillo and he is just three goals away from tying for the fifth-highest single season total in Chapman history. The Newport Beach native leads the Panthers with 115 earned exclusions this season.

O'Brien and Dayan lead the Panthers and are tied for second in the SCIAC in points with 96. Both players are also averaging over two goals per game, something that has only been done once since the 1999 season.

Dayan is recording a breakout season in his first year as a Panther, tallying 59 total goals this season, 27 of which have come against SCIAC teams. He is second on the team and ranks fourth in the conference in goals scored. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native also ranks first in the conference with 60 steals and third in the conference with 37 assists.

The Panthers head into the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 3 seed and travel to Whittier to take on the Poets in the semifinals.
