Men’s water polo team, 14 individuals earn academic recognition

ORANGE, Calif. – Academic honors came rolling in for the Chapman University men's water polo team, including a top-10 ranking for team GPA. Fourteen student-athletes were recognized in three different categories for their academic success by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.

As a team, the Panthers posted 3.28 GPA in the fall semester. It was the second-highest in the SCIAC and the 10th-highest among all NCAA programs.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the athlete must attain a grade point average in excess of 3.20. Divided into three teams based on cumulative grade point average (GPA), 111 athletes garnered Outstanding (4.00-3.71), 162 Superior (3.70-3.41) and 115 Excellent (3.40-3.20) recognition from 45 teams.

Freshman Ethan Walter earned Outstanding recognition. Freshman Brad Wilson, junior Cameron Genetti, freshman Andy Anguiano, junior Eric Sichak, freshman Evan Belli, junior Jared Bernardi, junior Wesley Hertel and sophomore Garrett Wilson were all honored in the Superior category. Freshman Graham Asalone, freshman Philip MacLean, freshman Daniel Kavesh, sophomore Jack Gregov and junior Vasil Halchev earned recognition in the Excellent category.

A total of 388 student-athlete and 24 teams received the academic recognition from the ACWPC.
