Hertel earns SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. - Netminder Wes Hertel suited up for three of four contests this week with the men's water polo team, tallying 42 total saves to earn SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors. 

The senior goaltender helped the Panthers beat La Verne 19-13, saving 16 shots and contributing three steals in the effort. The victory helped Chapman move to 3-0 in SCIAC play, the first time the Panthers have had an undefeated record through three games since starting 5-0 in the 2014 season.

The Houston, Texas native played all 32 minutes of the matchup against Wagner College the next day, saving 16 shots on goal to help the Panthers clinch the 9-7 victory. The men's team is now 5-8 overall and jumped up to No. 2 in conference standings.

The Panthers' next matchup will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Whittier.
