Hertel earns second SCIAC weekly award

ORANGE, Calif. - Senior Wes Hertel helped lead the Chapman University men's water polo team to two home victories this past week, earning SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

The goalkeeper helped his squad beat La Verne on Wednesday night, recording 12 saves and six steals in the 17-14 win. On Saturday's Senior Day contest against Cal Lutheran, the Houston, Texas native's stellar performance in the net led the team to a 13-9 victory. Hertel tallied seven saves and six steals to take home the win.

Hertel has helped the Panthers to a 7-5 conference ledger and Chapman currently ranks fourth in the conference standings with two matches yet to play. A victory over Redlands next weekend would seal a No. 4 seed in the up-coming SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

The Panthers host Whittier on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in their final home match of the season before heading to Redlands on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. to fight for a playoff spot.
