Seniors lead the way as Chapman sweeps La Sierra in season finale

ORANGE, Calif. – Each of the eight seniors on the Chapman University softball team earned hits in Sunday's doubleheader against La Sierra University at El Camino Real Park as the team won both games 8-0 to end their season with a 22-13 record. At the game, seniors Andrena Calix, C.C. Daly, Carly Foerster, Courtney James, Jayme Jarvis, Jessica Mitchell, Michelle Pitts, and Larissa Silvas were recognized for their contributions to the team throughout their Chapman softball career.

Game 1: Chapman 8, La Sierra 0
The Panthers, led by the seniors, took the game in six innings thanks to a five-run third inning that gave the team a sizeable cushion and eventually sealed their win. Freshman P Cassie Oregel allowed La Sierra (7-34) only two hits.

In the third inning, Pitts earned two RBI with a single to left field which scored Calix and Foerster to make the score 3-0. Pitts went 1-for-3 and added two runs. She finished the season with a .495 batting average which is third best in Chapman's Division III single-season history.

Junior IF Kyla Javier also had two RBI in the third, scoring James and Pitts after she hit a two run triple. Javier went 1-for-2 and added a run after Daly hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 6-0. Foerster scored the only run of the fourth inning from an RBI from Calix. Foerster went 2-for-2, including a triple in the fourth inning, and also scored two runs. The final run of the game came after Mitchell doubled, scoring Jarvis, to win the game 8-0.

Game 2: Chapman 8, La Sierra 0
Pitchers Katie Terry and Rhianna Stepler-Camp combined to allow no hits in the second game, and allowed only one La Sierra runner to reach base in the game.

Once again, Chapman took an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning. Javier, Foerster, and Jarvis all had RBI hits while Daly had a two RBI double. Daly led the team in the second game, going 2-for-3, and earning two RBI while scoring two runs. The Panthers scored one run in each of the next three innings to take an 8-0 lead, and earn a win in their senior game.
