Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.

The Chapman University softball team had three players named to the All-SCIAC teams, including a pair of repeat honorees and one newcomer. Sophomore pitcher Natalie Both (First Team) and junior pitcher Cassie Oregel (Second Team) each earned their second straight All-SCIAC selections. Junior IF Taylor Cartwright earned All-SCIAC Second Team honors for the first time in her career.

Panthers eliminated with two losses at SCIAC softball tournament

The Chapman University softball team was eliminated from the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Friday with a pair of losses at the Field of Dreams at the University of Redlands on Friday. The No. 3-seeded Panthers were shutout by No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 6-0 in the opener and then eliminated by No. 4 seed Whittier College 6-4.

Softball hoping history does not repeat at SCIAC Tourney

If the Chapman University softball team is experiencing a little déjà vu this week, there’s good reason for that. The Panthers will begin the SCIAC Tournament as one of four teams – the No. 3 seed to be exact – with their eyes on an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs, same as last year.

La Verne spoils 'Senior Day' for softball

With nothing to lose and playing ‘spoiler’ on its minds, the University of La Verne softball team came into El Camino Real Park and did just that, sweeping a doubleheader from Chapman University 6-4 and 9-6 on Tuesday afternoon in its home finale.

Softball knocks off No. 15 Redlands...twice

Chapman University softball team earned two huge upset wins over No. 15 University of Redlands, sweeping the Bulldogs with a pair of 2-1 decisions in a SCIAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at El Camino Real Park. The wins helped the Panthers go 4-0 on the weekend and grab sole possession of the third place standing in the conference.

Squeezing it out, softball earns split with Claremont

A successful suicide squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the seventh capped a three-run rally and earned the Chapman University softball team a much-needed split with visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a SCIAC doubleheader at El Camino Real Park on Saturday afternoon.

Walkoff homer gives Panthers winning trip in Tucson

A two-strike, two-out, two-run home run by junior IF Taylor Cartwright in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Chapman University softball team a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over St. Olaf College on Sunday afternoon at the Tucson Invitational Games. The win gave the Panthers a winning trip, going 4-2 in the six weekend games.

Win streak hits eight with softball sweep of Cal Lu

The Chapman University softball team made the SCIAC standings a lot more interesting and improved its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Cal Lutheran University on Tuesday afternoon at El Camino Real Park. The Panthers rallied for two runs in the sixth inning of Game 1 to win 4-3 and then ‘run ruled’ the second place Regals in Game 2, 8-0.

Behind pitching, big hits softball runs win streak to six

Two more shutouts for the Chapman University softball pitching staff, combined with 14 runs of offense on Sunday helped the Panthers to a doubleheader sweep 6-0 and 8-0 over visiting NYU-Polytechnic at El Camino Real Park.

The Chapman University softball team broke out of its recent offensive woes while getting 12 shutout innings from its pitching staff on the way to a SCIAC doubleheader sweep over visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Friday afternoon at El Camino Real Park. The Panthers won 2-0 in Game 1 before earning a ‘run rule’ win over the Sagehens 9-0 in five innings in Game 2.

Berry slugs three homers, hands Chapman doubleheader sweep

The Chapman University softball team dropped a pair of games to Berry College (Ga.) 10-2 and 4-0 on Tuesday night in a non-conference doubleheader at El Camino Real Park. The Panthers were plagued by four errors in the first game and managed only two hits in the second contest as their losing streak was extended to four games.

Sophomore RHP Natalie Both starred for the Chapman University softball team on Sunday, both offensively and in the pitching circle as the Panthers swept a SCIAC doubleheader from visiting Occidental College 3-0 and 4-3 at El Camino Real Park.

Whittier takes two from softball in SCIAC opener

The Chapman University softball team returned to action after two weeks without games and dropped both ends of its SCIAC-opening doubleheader with visiting Whittier College, 4-1 and 5-3 at El Camino Real Park on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers managed just four hits in an extra-inning loss to the Poets in Game 1 and then fell behind early in Game 2 and never recovered.
