Behind pitching, big hits softball runs win streak to six

ORANGE, Calif. – Two more shutouts for the Chapman University softball pitching staff, combined with 14 runs of offense on Sunday helped the Panthers to a doubleheader sweep 6-0 and 8-0 over visiting NYU-Polytechnic at El Camino Real Park. The Chapman pitching staff has now allowed just one run over its past 43 innings as the Panthers extended their season-best winning streak to six. The games marked Chapman's second and third straight shutouts and gave it seven overall this season.

Game 1: Chapman 6, NYU-Poly 0

Junior RHP Cassie Oregel was perfect through 4.2 innings, before surrendering her first base hit in the fifth inning. She finished with a complete-game, two-hit shutout that included eight strikeouts and no walks to improve to 6-4 this season.

The Panthers jumped on the board right away in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs for junior IF Lindsay Holt who drove home all three runs with a double to right-center to put Chapman up 3-0 early. Holt later singled and scored in the third inning on a two-run single by junior OF Karina Muniz which gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead.

Sophomore C Lisa Perez was 2-for-3 with a run scored and junior IF Taylor Cartwright had an RBI triple in the fourth inning.
