La Verne sweeps Chapman at home

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University softball team fell to La Verne on both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at El Camino Real Park. The visiting Leopards took game one 10-0 and slugged out an 8-0 win in game two.

Game 1: La Verne 10, Chapman 0   

Senior Natalie Both went toe-to-toe in the circle with La Verne's Katherine Kibbe holding La Verne scoreless through the first two innings and giving up just one hit. Freshman Samantha Whalen relieved Both in the third giving up seven runs allowing the Leopards to take a comfortable 7-0 lead. The Leopards tacked on two more in the fifth to earn the 10-0 win.   

Kibbe earned her sixth win of the season after tossing a full five innings while giving up just three hits. On the offensive side, La Verne slugged out 10 hits, with Carly Condonand Alexis Schiffeach recording doubles.

Game 2: La Verne 8, Chapman 0 

La Verne carried its momentum from the first win to the second game as the Leopards scored a pair of runs in the third and six in the fourth to earn the 8-0 win. La Verne out-hit Chapman 10-5 in game two and capitalized on three Chapman errors to earn the five-inning victory.

Sophomore Sarah Taketa suffered the loss after tossing 4.1 innings and giving up four hits. Senior LF Amy Serven was the only Panther to get a hit in both games finishing the day 2-for-4.

Chapman will return to El Camino Real Park on Sunday, April 10 for a non-conference doubleheader against Whittier beginning at noon.
