An impressive number of Chapman University student-athletes were again recognized for their work in the classroom. The Panthers placed 178 student-athletes on the SCIAC’s annual All-Academic team, the conference announced on Thursday.

Softball loses in second round of tournament despite two home runs

The Chapman University softball team lost their second game of the SCIAC Tournament 10-8 this morning to No. 3 Whittier despite heavy hitting. Senior Amber Perez went yard in her final game as a Panther and was joined by freshman Samantha Tong who slammed a three-run homer to cap off her rookie season.

Freshman Sarah Hartmann was selected as the SCIAC Athlete of the Week following a stellar week in the circle. Hartmann went 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA in two games last week, including a crucial shutout Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Softball sweeps to earn SCIAC Tournament berth

April 29, 2017

Two wins were needed and the Chapman University softball team swept a doubleheader over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to earn a spot in the SCIAC Tournament. The Panthers won a marathon first game 1-0 and completed the sweep with a 9-5 win in game two.

Senior Amber Perez was red-hot at the plate as the Chapman University softball team split a SCIAC doubleheader with Occidental, winning 4-3 and falling 8-4. Perez was a combined 6-for-7 in the doubleheader with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.

The pitching remained stingy and freshman Samantha Tong drove in five RBIs to lead the Chapman University softball team to a doubleheader split of Williams on Monday. Chapman’s pitchers allowed just three earned runs as the Panthers completetd their second doubleheader sweep of the season.

Two of the top hitting teams in the conference ended up playing a pair of pitcher’s duels as the Chapman University softball team split with La Verne on Saturday. The Panthers (11-9, 7-5 SCIAC) took the first game 4-2 but fell 4-1 in the second game to the SCIAC leaders.

The Chapman University softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Ithaca College on Thursday with both teams winning 8-1. Ithaca took the first game and Chapman took the second game to move to 10-8 on the year.

The Chapman University softball team split a doubleheader with Denison at home on Saturday at El Camino Real Park. The Panthers fell to Big Red 5-3 in game one, but rallied in game two with a 7-1 victory.

Head coach Janet Lloyd won her 600th career game as the Chapman University softball team split a doubleheader with Redlands on Friday. The Panthers won the second game of the doubleheader in run-rule fashion with a 14-6 victory in five innings after dropping the first game 8-4 in extras.
