Softball recognized for academic achievement

The Chapman University softball team along with 11 individuals earned academic recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Panthers were one of 102 Division III teams to be recognized as an NFCA Academic Team.

Record number of student-athletes achieve academic distinction

Chapman University student-athletes raised the bar with a record number of 220 SCIAC All-Academic selections for the 2017-18 school year. This year marks the first time in Chapman’s six-year history in the SCIAC that more than 200 Panthers were included on the All-Academic teams.

ORANGE, Calif. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its NCAA Division III All-Region teams earlier this morning. Sophomore Michaela Foisy headlined the selections with a spot on the Second Team, while junior Elizabeth Runge earned her first All-Region award with a spot on the Third Team.

Three members of the Chapman University softball team were selected to All-SCIAC teams earlier this morning. Junior Elizabeth Runge and sophomore Michaela Foisy headlined the awards with First Team selections, while senior Sarah Taketa earned a spot on the Second Team.

Softball suffers tough sweep on Senior Day

The Chapman University softball team celebrated its three seniors prior to its final home doubleheader but dropped a pair of back and forth games to Redlands. The Panthers fell 11-8 in the first game before suffering a a heartbreaking 9-8 loss in 10 innings in the nightcap.

The Chapman University softball team fell twice to Cal Lutheran on Friday, 8-4 and 23-5. The Panthers current skid reached seven games.

The Chapman University softball team fell 6-5 and 5-2 in a doubleheader against visiting Whittier on Saturday. Senior Kristen Weiser had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Panthers at the plate.

Foisy, Runge triple in softball’s doubleheader losses

The Chapman University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader this afternoon against Pomona-Pitzer (19-6-1, 10-3-1 SCIAC). The Panthers (13-11, 6-6 SCIAC) tallied double-digit hits in the first game, including a pair of triples from sophomore Michaela Foisy and junior Elizabeth Runge.

Softball erases early deficits to sweep doubleheader

March 16, 2018

After going down in the top of the first in both games, the Chapman University softball team battled back to sweep a doubleheader from Western Connecticut State, 13-3 and 4-2, on Friday. Sophomore Samantha Tong drove in five runs and junior Elizabeth Runge went 4-for-5 over both games.

Softball splits doubleheader behind two-out rally

The Chapman University softball team split a doubleheader with Piedmont College (8-8) earlier tonight. The Panthers (5-5) dropped the first game 7-3 but rallied in the second to overcome a first-inning deficit and notch an 8-1 victory.

The Chapman University softball team was down 9-2 after three innings but scored 14 unanswered runs over the next two games to sweep visiting Occidental in A Sunday doubleheader. Junior Samantha Whalen threw a four-hit shutout to complete the sweep and senior Sarah Taketa had six hits on the day.

Softball walks off to split doubleheader with CMS

February 24, 2018

After dropping the first game 11-1, the Chapman University softball team rallied in extra innings to pull off a 7-6 walk-off victory over the visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-3, 3-3 SCIAC). The Panthers (2-4, 1-3 SCIAC) were led to victory by sophomore Samantha Tong, who hit a walk-off double to score the winning run in the eighth inning of game two.

Softball drops pair of one-run games

February 17, 2018

The Chapman University softball team faced its first SCIAC opponent of the season at home Saturday, falling in a pair of one-run game to La Verne, 3-2 and 10-9. The Panthers (1-3, 0-2 SCIAC) couldn’t close the gap in the last inning against the visiting Leopards (7-3, 3-1 SCIAC) in two tightly contested ball games.

Returners lead the way for softball’s 2018 season

The Chapman University softball team enters the bulk of its 2018 season after opening with a split doubleheader against Whitworth in January. The Panthers return eight of their nine players in the lineup and two of their three starting pitchers. Chapman also welcomes back sophomores Michaela Foisy and Sarah Sumida, who each earned All-West Region Third Team honors and All-SCIAC selections.

Comeback win highlights season-opening split

The Chapman University softball team opened its season with a doubleheader split against Whitworth on Friday, taking the first game 8-5 and falling 9-1 in the nightcap. The Panthers (1-1) rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to take the season-opening victory.

Softball named NFCA All-Academic Team

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association came out with its annual Easton/NFCA All-Academic Teams on Monday, Oct. 3. The 2016-17 Chapman University women’s softball team was awarded the No. 76 spot in the 125-team list of all Division III teams in the nation.
