Claudy's gem leads to weekly award

ORANGE, Calif. – On her Senior Day, Emily Claudy tossed her best game of the season and has been selected as the final SCIAC Pitcher of the Week for the season. She became the first Chapman pitcher to earn the award this season.

In need of a win to lock up the No. 3 seed in this weekend's SCIAC Tournament, the Panthers handed the ball to Claudy on Senior Day and she delivered. She allowed just two hits for her first complete game shutout of the season.

Claudy walked three and struck out one in the win. She held a narrow lead for six innings before the Panthers hung a five-spot on the scoreboard in the sixth inning to end the game on a run-rule.

The senior from Moorpark, Calif., retired nine batters in a row from the second to the fifth and never allowed a runner to reach third. The Panthers turned a pair of double plays behind her to keep runner out of scoring position.

Chapman will play second-seeded Pomona-Pitzer in the opening game of the double elimination SCIAC Tournament at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Athena Field at 4 p.m. on Friday.
