Swimmers rewrite the record books at Belmont

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Their home away from home, the Chapman University swim teams always tends to raise their game to the next level when they enter the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach. That's the home of the annual Pacific Collegiate Swimming Championships every February and where currently 33 of the school's 38 records have been set.

This weekend was no different for the Panthers as freshman Lisa Horn broke a three-year old Chapman record in the 100-yard breaststroke, recording a 1:09.49 on Friday, shaving nearly two seconds off the Panthers' previous best in the event.

Horn was also a member of Chapman's record-setting 200-yard medley relay team which completed the event in 1:54.39 - over a second better that the previous mark set in 2005. Senior Edna Best, freshman Amanda Thompson and sophomore Julia Fish contributed to the new school record on Wednesday.

It was a great weekend on the men's side as nine school records were established, including four relay records in the 200- and 400-medleys and the 200- and 400-freestyles. Senior Tommy Thompson set new marks in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and freshman Taylor Gledhill earned his spot in the record books with school bests in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly.
