Swept away: Panthers notch swimming victory over Mills

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's swim teams made it a clean sweep over visiting Mills College, capturing first place in all 17 events en route to a 168-32 non-conference victory at the Allred Aquatics Center on Monday afternoon.

In fact, there was a different winner in all 15 of the individual events for Chapman, led by senior Sami McLaughlin in the 1000-yard freestyle and sophomore Alex Carubis in the 100-yard butterfly.

McLaughlin finished over 1:23 faster than the next closest competitor with a final time of 11:22.68 in the distance event. Meanwhile, Carubis earned a mark of 1:02.66 in the 100 fly. Both were swimming in their respective events for the first time this season and both recorded the best times Chapman has seen in either event all year.

Sophomore Kassy Parker (27.27) edged out junior Julie Case (27.50) in the 50-yard freestyle, while freshman Alex Little earned first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of (1:00.78) to round out the women's sprints.

Parker swam anchor on the Panthers' 200-yard freestyle relay which touched the wall first with a time of 1:45.11, just four seconds off the school record pace set last February. Monday's relay team also featured sophomore Kirsten Spicer, senior Amanda Morris and sophomore Riley Ford.

Chapman returns to SCIAC competition on Saturday as the Panthers travel to Pasadena to take on Caltech in swimming and diving beginning at 11 a.m.
