Dimicco takes second at Redlands in Chapman diving debut

REDLANDS, Calif. – Chapman University freshman women's diver Kayla Dimicco placed second in the 3-meter springboard competition at the Redlands Dive Invite on Friday morning. Making her collegiate debut, the rookie also took sixth place in the 1-meter springboard event to lead the Panthers in their 2014-15 season opener.

Dimicco earned a six-dive total score of 227.25 in the 3-meter event, behind only Kianna Mourer from Azusa Pacific University. The Chapman freshman earned her highest marks of the day on her fourth dive of the competition, a reverse dive in pike position which earned several scores of 8.0 and a total of 44.65 from the five judges. Dimicco's overall score after six dives in the 1-meter was 187.65, which was good for sixth place.

Junior diver Darcy Hardwick (135.90) came in at 11th place for the Chapman women in the 3-meter dive, as well.

Both the Panthers' swimming and diving teams begin SCIAC competition on Dec. 6 when they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to take on CMS and Occidental College in a meet beginning at 11 a.m.
