Swim and Dive earns big win over Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University swimming and diving team earned a big win over visiting Caltech on Saturday 362-199. The women defeated Caltech 246-30, while the men fell to the Beavers 169-116 at the Allred Pool.

On the women's side, senior Emily Holmquist ranks among the fastest women in the SCIAC, taking first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.56 and first-place in the 200-yard freestyle with a career-high time of 2:01.82.

Senior Michelle Hutchins also earned first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.81, earning her career-best in the event. And sophomore sprinter Vivian Jiang earned a career-best mark of 1:11.46 in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the lanes, freshman sprinter Jonathan Lee continues to impress with a first-place swim in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.44 and a career-high first-place finish in the 200-yard Individual medley with a mark of 2:01.25.

Freshman AJ Silva captured first in the men's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:29.00, this was his first time competing in this event.

On the diving board, Chapman swept the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions on both the men's and women's side as freshman divers Joey Luba and Kayla Dimicco led the way. Luba earned scores of 284.55 (1-meter) and 297.7 (3-meter) and Dimicco earned scores of 238.25 (1-meter) and 251.70 (3-meter) for a pair of wins each.

While junior diver Darcy Hardwick posted a career-best score in the 3-meter (181.65) springboard event to capture second place. She also placed second in the 1-meter with a score of 181.60.

Chapman men's and women's teams return home for their final SCIAC meet of the year, hosting Redlands and La Verne for 'Senior Day' on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m.
