Dimicco, Luba to compete at NCAA Regionals this weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – After a successful performance at the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend, Chapman University freshmen Joey Luba and Kayla Dimicco will travel to San Antonio, Texas for the NCAA Diving Regional Championships, hosted by Trinity University, which begin Friday and conclude on Saturday (Feb. 27-28).

Dimicco and Luba are the first divers in school history to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships. The pair also set school records over the weekend at the SCIAC Championships in both the men's and women's 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events.

Luba has ranked amongst the top SCIAC divers all season and placed second in the men's 1-meter springboard preliminaries and fourth in the finals at the SCIAC Championships last weekend. On the 3-meter board, the rookie qualified for the finals with a season-high score of 495.05.

Dimicco is slated to compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter women's diving events in San Antonio. She qualified for the 3-meter event after placing second in the SCIAC Championships finals and setting a Chapman record scoring 423.30. The rookie's best dive of the weekend came in the ninth round, a backward dive in the pike position (1.8 degree of difficulty) which earned four 8.0s and an 8.5 from the judges.

The NCAA Regional Championships begin Friday at 3 p.m. CT and Saturday's competition is set to start at 12 p.m. CT.
