Freshmen pace Panthers in meet with Wayland

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams hit the pool for a dual competition against Wayland Baptist with freshmen pacing the Panthers in several events.

Freshman diver Kellyn Toole started off strong for the women's diving team placing second in both the 1-meter (219.54) and 3-meter dives (226.05). Toole was just 1.25 points short of a first place finish in the 1-meter dive with Genesis Veliz earning the first place finish with a mark of 220.70.

Freshman pair Katie Blasing (5:44.84) and Brooke Latner (5:48.75) led the Panthers in the 500-free finishing first and second place respectively.  

Junior Lauren Alvarado paced the Panthers in the 100-free finishing just under the minute mark with a time of 58.50. Alvarado also finished third in the 50-free with a final time of 26.79 seconds.

Junior Claire M. Fieweger placed first in the 100-free with a mark of 1:03.94 for a season best. Fieweger also earned a second-place finish in the 50-back with a 31.31 time.

On the men's side, freshman sprinter Quinn Gates dominated the 50-free with a 21.8 finishing a full second before any of the other swimmers. The sprinter also placed second in the 100-free with a final mark of 50 seconds flat.

Sophomore AJ Silva continues to pace the Panthers in the 400 IM placing second with a time of 4.28.17 just half a second behind Wayland swimmer Ethan Nicholson.

Chapman returns to the pool deck Saturday morning, Jan. 9 for a double-dual meet against Pomona-Pitzer and Whitman at Allred Pool beginning at 11 a.m.
