Toole continues to lead Panthers on boards

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams finished second overall in a double-dual meet with University of La Verne and Mills College on Saturday afternoon at Allred Pool.

The Chapman women defeated La Verne 126 to 105 and defeated Mills 172 to 46. The Chapman men defeated Mills 128 to 0 but fell to University of La Verne 137-69.

Freshman diver Kellyn Toole continued to dominate on the dives earning first place on both the 1-meter and 3-meter. Toole improved her score on the 1-meter to 245.5 and 246.8 on the 3-meter.

The Panthers started off the meet strong placing first and second place respectively in the 200-yard women's medley relay, in addition to closing the meet with a first place victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshmen Katie Blasing and Kristina Fong, and sophomore Rachel Isaacs competed as legs on both first-place teams.

Fong also won the 100 yard backstroke with a final mark of 1:01.12, while Isaacs captured third place in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best finish of 1:01.84.

Sophomore Mary Welton earned a career-best in the 1000-yard freestyle for nine points with a final mark of 11:19.51 to earn the first place finish. Freshman Brooke Latner swam in right behind her with a season-best time of 12:00.68 to earn second place in the heat.

Junior Martina Exlerova sprinted to a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 25.51.

On the men's side, several freshmen continued to lead the Panthers in the lanes. Freshman Quinn Gates paced the Panthers earning two second-place finishes. Gates finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.14) and second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.35).  

Freshman Connor Broughton swam to a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a career-best mark of 4:50.68 just 0.46 seconds behind Leopard's Brandon Pon.

Sophomore Cassen Singer also placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke for a season-best mark of 1:05.12. Singer also led-off the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 26.41 to earn Chapman a third-place finish in the heat.

Chapman will compete next on Saturday, Jan. 23 for a double-dual SCIAC meet against California Institute of Technology and University of La Verne at Allred Pool beginning at 11 a.m.
