Toole sets CU diving record

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming and diving program jumped in the pool at the Thompson Aquatic Center on Saturday morning to face off against a pair of SCIAC foes Occidental College and University of Redland. Freshman Kellyn Toole was the bright spot on the day breaking a CU diving record for the second time this season.

The women went 1-1 on Saturday defeating Occidental College 118 -111 but falling to Redlands 167-72. The men's team fell to 0-2 with Occidental defeating the Panthers 164-43 and Redlands defeating Chapman 193-28.

Toole scored a 491.95 on the 1-meter to earn first-place and break her own school record by .83 points. The freshman also won first on the 3-meter with a career-best final score of 259.49.

Pacing the sprinters was junior Martina Exlerova who earned first-place in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 25.16. Freshman Kristina Fong fell just 0.58 seconds behind Exlerova to win second place.

Fong also sprinted to second place in the 100 back with a final time of 1:01.76 just one second shy of her season-best.

On the men's side, freshman Connor Broughton earned second place in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:03.01. Broughton also set a season best in the 100 breast to earn a final time of 1:05.42.

Freshman Quinn Gates paced the Panthers in the 50 free to earn third place with a final mark of 22.40.  

The Chapman swimming and diving teams will take a week to prepare for SCIAC Championships on Thursday, February 18, through Sunday, February 21, against all conference opponents at SPLASH! La Mirada. ​
