Panthers compete in double dual with Biola and APU

AZUSA, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim teams competed in a double dual meet with Biola and Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The men's team captured its first win of the season, defeating Biola 100-89 while the women finished the meet trailing Biola 114-111 and Azusa 168-71.

Sophomore Connor Broughton dominated the 1650 free with a 17:30.35 final time to take first. Broughton also finished first in the 200 back with a final time of 2:05.21.

Freshman Richard Parnell earned second in the men's 200 free with a final time of 1:49.87. Parnell also took second in the 100 free with a final mark of 50.13, just two seconds behind Tom Franicevich from Biola.

Junior AJ Silva dominated the 200 butterfly with a final time of 2:06.81 and then went on to finish second in the 50 free with a career-best time of 23.29.

Rookies Chase Mitchell and Crosby Tinucci finished one and two in the 400 IM. Crosby finished 4:41.74 right behind Mitchell who took first place with a 4:33.62. Tinucci also finished second in the 200 back with a 2:06.92 while Mitchell finished second in the 500 free with a final time of 5:06.65.

On the women's side, the divers took to the boards for the first time this season with sophomore Kellyn Toole leading the way. Toole dominated on the 1-meter with a career-best 258.80 earning first place in her first outing. Toole also earned second in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 239.75.

In their rookie meets, freshman Rebecca DeAngelis and Caitlyn Jaquemart finished fourth and fifth on the 1-meter. De Angelis edged Jaquemart 160.85 to 142.95.  

Swimming in the 200 back for the first time this season, freshman Saranna Quach out-swam the competition by a full three seconds with a final time of 2:11.89.

Sophomore Kristina Fong took third in the 50 free with a final time 25.77 and anchored the women's 200 free relay which took second. The relay team consisted of freshmen Molly Davis, Teresa Gerhold and Natalie Neffner who pulled together a final time of 1:42.92.

The Panthers will travel to Whittier for their next meet at Whittier on Saturday, Nov. 12.
