Women's relays highlight dual meet finale

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams wrapped up the dual meet season with a double against Cal Lutheran and Redlands on Saturday. The women's team defeated Cal Lutheran 130-93 but fell to Redlands 139-82 while the men's team fell to both Redlands and Cal Lutheran.

With the dual meet season over, Chapman's women's squad finished in a four-way tie for fifth with a 3-5 record. At 1-7, the men's team picked up its first SCIAC dual meet win and finished with the eighth-best record. Both teams have two weeks off of competition before the SCIAC Championship meet in Commerce, Calif.

Both women's relay teams bookended the meet with highlight swims. To start the day, Chapman's 200 medley relay team of freshman Sara Quach, junior Mary Welton, freshman Ally Haase and sophomore Kristina Fong finished second to Redlands but defeated Cal Lutheran with a time of 1:57.91. Quach and Fong teamed up with senior Martina Exlerova and freshman Natalie Neffner to end the day on another high note, taking first overall in the 400 free relay with a 3:47.49.

Quach also had a solid individual swim in the 100 back. Her time of 1:00.75 came in second overall but defeated all of her competition from Redlands. Sophomore Kellyn Toole hauled in another first place finish on the diving board, scoring a 271.80 on the 3-meter board.

Freshman Sabrina Evanson swam the 400 IM for the first time this year and finished with a 4:51.64, finishing third behind a pair of swimmers from Redlands. Another freshman Molly Davis defeated her competition from Cal Lu with a 1:00.46 in the 100 fly while classmate Josie Tiffany duplicated her scoring with a 1:14.05 in the 100 breast.

On the men's side, freshman Chase Mitchell swam a season-best 54.95 in the 100 fly to take fifth overall. Junior Blake Milne had his season-best in the 100 breast, clocking a 1:04.95 to take fourth overall. Both men's relays took fifth overall.

Both teams will spend the next two weeks preparing for the SCIAC Championship in Commerce on Feb. 15-18.
