Three more records go down, women’s relay takes third to wrap up SCIAC Championship

COMMERCE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams wrapped up the SCIAC Championship meet with the women finishing fourth for the second year in a row and the men taking ninth. The women's relay team finished on a high note with another school record and another school record.

Senior Martina Exlerova, freshman Molly Davis, sophomore Kristina Fong and freshman Sara Quach took down the 10th school record of the meet with a 3:45.83 in the 400 free relay. The school record time but another Chapman relay team on the podium with a third-place finish.

Two more school records fell in the morning's prelims. Quach's 2:05.78 in the 200 back was the second fastest time of the morning and the fastest time in school history. She took fifth in finals. Freshman Chase Mitchell broke the second school record of the morning in the 200 fly. He swam a 1:56.27 to qualify for the consolation finals. He took 12th in finals.

Junior Mary Welton and freshman Sabrina Evanson finished eighth and ninth in the 1650 free and less than a second apart. Welton finished with a time of 18:03.18 and Evanson less than half a second later.

Fong qualified for the championship finals in the 100 free and took ninth with a 54.50. Davis swam in the 200 fly championship final and took sixth with a 2:10.56, shaving nearly a second off her prelim time. Freshman Ally Haase won the consolation final in the 200 fly.

Sophomore Connor Broughton and junior AJ Silva led the men's team with top finishes. Broughton took 11th in the 1650 free with a 16:57.64 and Silva finished 16th in the 200 fly.

The women's team kept its spot in fourth place with 464.5 points while the men stayed in ninth with 172 points. The Panthers combined to break 10 school records over the course of the meet while both teams repeated their positions in the standings from a year ago.
