Underclassmen shine at Winter Collegiate Invitational

ORANGE, Calif. – The men's and women's swim and dive teams competed in the Winter Collegiate Invitational held at East Los Angeles College this past Saturday. Both teams finished the Invitational in sixth place, led by several underclassmen.

Freshman William Crewe placed first in the 400 IM by more than three seconds, finishing with a time of 4:10.60. The rookie also helped the Panthers place seventh in the 200 medley relay with a team time of 1:40.62 and fourth in the 800 free relay with a team time of 7:15.64.

Joining Crewe in the 200 medley relay were a trio of fellow freshmen Josh Modglin, Jacob Cardenas, and Justin Lammert. Modglin placed second in the 100 back with a time of 53.43 and was part of the 800 free relay with Crewe and Cardenas.

Sophomore Molly Davis led the women, placing seventh in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.60. She also helped the 800 free relay team to a fourth place finish with the help of sophomore Teresa Gerhold, freshman Emma Psomas and senior Mary Welton.

Freshmen Hanna Heiss and Jailey Reeves rounded out the women's competition for the Panthers, with Heiss placing eighth in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.10 and Reeves placing 10th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.16.

Chapman takes a few weeks off for the holidays, but heads back to the pool on Sunday, Jan. 7 for the Cal Lutheran Invite.
