Men’s swim and dive beats Biola for second time this season

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams faced off against Biola this weekend. The men took home a victory against the Eagles for the second time this season while the women fell.

The men's 200 medley relay featuring junior Quinn Gates and freshmen Josh Modglin, Will Mamer and William Crewe started off strong, placing first with a time of 1:38.77. Sophomore Chase Mitchell impressed, placing first in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.08 and first in the 100 butterfly at 54.23. Senior AJ Silva finished less than a second behind Mitchell in the 100 fly with a time of 54.48, snagging second place. Mitchell took home his third first-place finish of the day in the 500 free, beating out the second place finisher by just over eight seconds with a time of 4:57.81.

Gates placed first in the 50 free with a time of 21.88, while freshman teammate Justin Lammert finished next with a time of 22.37. Lammert won a narrow race in the 100 free, beating out the second place finisher by just 11 tenths of a second. Modglin and sophomore Crosby Tinucci finished the 100 backstroke in 1-2 fashion, as Modglin finished at first 55.80 and Tinucci finished second with a time of 59.34.

From the women's team, only freshman Jailey Reeves was able to clinch a first place spot. The rookie won the 100 back with a time of 1:03.21.

The Panthers head back to their home pool at the Allred Aquatics Center this weekend on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
