Ranjani qualifies for second regional event in women’s victory over Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams competed against Caltech earlier today. The women won by a team score of 160-68, while the men lost 123-81.  Freshman diver Simran Ranjani qualified for NCAA Regionals and came in first place in the 3-meter boards with a score of 286.97.

After qualifying for the 1-meter board earlier this season, Ranjani will join teammate junior Kellyn Toole on both boards at regionals. Following the rookie in the 3-meter boards was Toole, who scored a 263.95. The two flip-flopped places in the 1-meter diving event, with Toole coming in first and Ranjani placing second.

The women started the meet strong as the 400 medley relay team of junior Kristina Fong, sophomores Ally Haase and Molly Davis and freshman Jailey Reeves placed first with a time of 4:14.00. Reeves continued her trend, placing first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.04. Freshman Hanna Heiss also had a strong showing, placing first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.40. The freshman duo of Carina Laukaitis and Joanna Spyrou finished one-two in the 100 back, with Spyrou finishing just over two seconds after Laukaitis.

Freshman Will Mamer continues to impress, placing first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.15. Senior AJ Silva finished right behind him in second with a time of 2:07.82. The underclassmen stole the spotlight, as freshman Josh Modglin finished first in the 100 back with a time of 53.83 and sophomore Chase Mitchell also finished first, this time in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.23. Freshman diver Ned Peterson rounded out the meet for the men, placing first in the 1-meter boards with a score of 162.30.

The Panthers take a week and a half off before heading to Commerce, Calif. for the SCIAC Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 21-Saturday, Feb. 24.
