Swimming & diving teams ready for SCIAC Championships

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams heads into the SCIAC Championships this weekend with both teams eyeing upward movement in the standings. The women's team has finished fourth in back-to-back years while the men took eighth last year.

Junior diver Kellyn Toole will look to climb back on the top podium in both diving events after finishing in second on both boards last year. She has posted the second-best score in the SCIAC on the 1-meter this season and has the top score on the 3-meter. Freshman Simran Ranjani will also make a push for the podium as she ranks second to Toole on the 3-meter and sixth on the 1-meter.

Freshman Jailey Reeves is poised for a big meet while representing the Panthers in the breaststroke. She ranks 10th in the SCIAC in the 100 breast and eighth in the 200 breast. Fellow freshman Joanna Spryou ranks 12th in the both distance freestyle events and will make a push to put up points.

After setting a school record and reaching the podium a year ago, sophomore Molly Davis currently ranks 10th in the 200 free and 18th in the 200 fly. The Panthers will make a play for some big points in the 200 back as well with freshmen Hanna Heiss and Carina Laukaitis ranking 10th and 11th in the event, respectively.

On the men's side of the meet, Chapman will look to freshmen and school record-holders William Crewe and Will Mamer. Crewe ranks in the top-16 of SCIAC times in seven different individual events. He ranks in the top-9 in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 fly and 400 IM. Mamer ranks 13th in the 100 breast.

The Panthers will have their best chance at racking up some points in the 100 back with three swimmers in the top-16. Crewe ranks seventh followed by fellow freshmen Josh Modglin in 12th and Robby Jones in 13th.

Freshman Simon Duyungan will make a push for the podium on the diving boards as he ranks third on the 1-meter and fifth on the 3-meter heading into the championship meet.

The SCIAC Championships begin tomorrow from the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce, Calif. and run through Saturday.
