Freshmen lead swim & dive at pentathlon

REDLANDS, Calif. – A pair of freshmen were the top finishers in their respective debuts for the Chapman University swimming & diving teams at the Redlands Pentathlon. Brandon Leu won the pentathlon on the men's side while Nancy Zhu took second on the women's side.

The pentathlon consisted of five events as all swimmers from Chapman, Redlands and La Verne same a 100-yard race of all four strokes as well as a 100 IM. Leu finished in the top-6 in every event and won both the butterfly and the backstroke.

The freshman finished with a time combined time of 4:36.29 in the five events to claim the individual title. He was three seconds faster than his nearest competitor.

Zhu along with fellow freshman Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson took second and third in the women's pentathlon. Both swimmers finished in the top-12 in every race with Zhu winning IM and Tanizaki-Hudson winning the butterfly.

Zhu completed the pentathlon with a 5:23.49 and Tanizaki-Hudson completed the five events with a 5:25.46. Sophomore Jailey Reeves was another to finisher for Chapman, taking second in both the breastroke and the IM.

The Panthers take off to the Cal Lutheran Sprint Meet on Saturday and open their dual meets on Nov. 10 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
