Swim and dive honors seniors at first home meet

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's swim and dive team celebrated their seniors with a 200-110 victory over visiting Mills College earlier this afternoon. Despite competing against themselves, the men's squad also celebrated three graduating seniors, Austin Donoghue, Connor Broughton and Jarett Guillow.

The 200 medley relay team of juniors Olivia Halbert and Molly Davis, senior Brooke Latner and freshman Sophia Kelsey won the event with a time of 1:21.21. Mills junior Maggie Krystad was the only athlete to compete in the 1000 free, posting a time of 13:56.27.

The Panthers took the top three spots in the 50 free, with sophomore Jailey Reeves finishing first with a time of 25.38. Senior Kristina Fong came in second just one tenth of a second later at 25.48. Freshman Avery Tamusaitis was the next to finish in third place at 27.13.

The Panthers took the top three spots in the next event as well, the 200 IM. Sophomore Carina Laukaitis took first place with a time of 2:17.80, followed by Tamusaitis at 2:21.50 and Kelsey at 2:27.48. Davis, Reeves and sophomore Christina D'Incognito finished within five seconds of each other to take first through third place in the 100 fly.

Fong and fellow senior Sadie Wiens finished first and second in the 100 free with times of 55.98 and 58.52, respectively, followed by junior Katharine Buliga in third place with a time of 1:01.19. Sophomore Hanna Heiss took first place in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.60, beating the second place finisher from Mills by nearly three seconds.

Freshman Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson won a tight race for the first place finish in the 100 breast, beating Mills' senior Hannah Soltz by less than two-tenths of a second. Wiens took third in the event with a time of 1:17.31, followed by sophomore Joanna Spyrou in fourth.

The 400 free team of Laukaitis, Reeves and juniors Teresa Gerhold and Natalie Neffner won first place with a time of 3:55.81. Davis, Tamusaitis, sophomore Pippa Russell and freshman Nancy Lopez took second place with a time of 4:00.95.

Despite not competing, senior diver Kellyn Toole was also honored for her four years of dedication to the swim and dive team.

The Panthers head to La Verne tomorrow morning but return to the Allred Olympic Pool on Saturday, Jan. 26 to host Biola at 11am.
