Swim & dive teams take on Biola in final home meet

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's swimming & diving team captured a team victory over Biola in the final home meet of the season. The Panther men captured eight event wins in the 124-72 team victory. The women's team fell 131-48 to the NCAA Division II Eagles.

Freshman Michael Kulinich swept the sprint freestyle events to lead the Panthers to the win. He won the 50 free with a time of 22.16 and sprinted to a 50.06 to win the 100 free later in the day. He swam the anchor leg in the 200 medley relay, which finished first but was disqualified.

The Panthers continued to dominate in the freestyle events as Chapman swimmers came in first in all three distance races. Freshman Brandon Leu's 1:49.54 took first in the 200 free. Freshman William Cho followed with a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.62 – the Panthers' fastest time of the year. Junior Chase Mitchell was the first to finish a mixed 1650 free race with a 17:39.88.

Freshman Tevin Pak took the win in the 200 IM with a 2:07.84 and sophomore Josh Modglin won the 100 back with a 54.70. The Panthers finished the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 free relay. Chapman's "A" team consisted of freshman Chase Bradshaw, sophomore Justin Lammert, Cho and Leu. The team swam a 1:30.87 to capture the win.

The women's team captured a pair of victories in the loss to Biola. Junior Molly Davis swam her fastest 200 free of the year to get the event win with a 2:00.96. Freshman Avery Tamusaitis won the 100 breast for the Panthers with a time of 1:11.35 – her fastest time of the year.

Chapman heads to Whittier next weekend as it moves into the final month of the season. The Panthers will be at Whittier on Feb. 2 and Occidental on Feb. 9 before the SCIAC Championships on Feb. 21-24 in Commerce, Calif.
