Swim and dive teams defeat Whittier in SCIAC meet

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University men and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Whittier college on Saturday. Both the men and women's teams won 11 events, the men with a team score of 166-65, and the women with a score of 167-104.

Chapman dominated several events at the meet. The men's team earned first through sixth place in the 50 free, with freshan Brandon Leu taking first with a time of 22:49. In the women's 200 free, Chapman also took first through sixth place, led by sophomore Carina Laukaitis with a time of 2:03:33.

Both the men and women's "A" teams finished first in the 200 medley relay. The women's team, composed of Laukaitis, freshman Avery Tamusaitis and juniors Ally Haase and Molly Davis, finished with a time of 1:59.80. The men's team of sophomores Josh Modglin and William Crewe and freshmen William Cho and Omar Insignares earned a time of 1:40.96.

Chapman women placed first, second, and third in the 200 fly, 500 free, and 100 breast. Haase led the women in the 200 fly with a time of 2:20.28 while junior Teresa Gerhold placed first in the 500 free at 5:31.61.

Tamusaitis placed first in both of the breast events, winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:16.42 and 200 breast with a time of 2:40.10. Modglin swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 back with a time of 56.03 and the 200 back with a time of 2.02.70.

The Panthers will travel to Occidental College on Saturday, Feb. 9 to face off against the Tigers at 11 am in their last meet before the SCIAC Championships.
