Swim & dive falls to Occidental in final dual meet

ORANGE- Calif. – The Chapman University men and women's swim teams lost to Occidental in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday. However, the Panthers had several standout performances during the meet, earning multiple first and second place finishes. Ultimately, the men's team fell 175-80, and the women's team fell 221-48.

Freshman William Cho outswam his competition in the men's 100 breast and placed first with a time of 1:01.71. Freshman Brandon Leu placed first out of 11 swimmers in the men's 50 free with a time of 22.07. Sophomore Darren Wong swam a 53.71 in the men's 100 fly to earn Chapman's third and final individual first place finish of the day. Freshman Omar Insignares finished immediately behind with a time of 54.54.

Chapman's men's 200 free relay team beat their competition to place first with a final time of 1:29.28. Earlier in the day the men swam 1:38:83 in the 200 medley relay to earn a close second place.

Sophomores William Crewe and Josh Modglin both placed second in their events. Crewe swam a 2:02.82 in the 200 fly, and Modglin swam a 1:58.20 in the 200 back. In the men's 500 free, junior Connor Broughton finished less than two seconds behind first place winner Matthew Howard, to also earn second place.

On the women's team, sophomore Jailey Reeves earned second place in both the 100 and 200 breast events, with times of 1:09.83 and 2:31.95 respectively. Junior Molly Davis swam 1.59.99 in the 200 free to earn second place. The women's 200 free relay team finished with a time of 1:43.01 to earn second place as well.

Having finished their final tune-up of the season, the swim and dive teams now set their sights towards the SCIAC Championships which begin on Thursday, Feb. 21 in Commerce Calif. The diving championships will take place Saturday and Sunday Feb. 16-17 at Pomona-Pitzer.
