Women’s swim in third place after first day of competition

COMMERCE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the SCIAC Championships earlier this evening. After five events, the women's team sits in third place and the men's team is tied for sixth place.

The 200 medley relay team of sophomores Hanna Heiss and Jailey Reeves, freshman Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson and senior Kristina Fong took fifth place in the A final with a time of 1:49.74. Freshmen Nancy Zhu and Avery Tamusaitis, sophomore Carina Laukaitis and senior Sadie Wiens posted a finals time of 1:53.39 in the B final.

The Panthers took fifth again in the A final of the 800 free relay. Laukaitis, Tamusaitis and juniors Molly Davis and Teresa Gerhold teamed up for a finals time of 7:50.92. Juniors Katharine Buliga, Ally Haase and Natalie Neffner and senior Brooke Latner finished with a time of 8:03.89 in the B final of the event.

The men's squad of freshmen William Cho, Brandon Leu and Michael Kulinich and sophomore Josh Modglin also took fifth place in the 200 medley relay A final with a time of 1:34.19. Sophomores William Crewe and Justin Lammert and freshmen Omar Insignares and Darren Wong helped the Panthers to a 1:35.87 finish in the 200 medley relay B final.

Lammert, Cho, and juniors Chase Mitchell and Dominic DelliQuadri took seventh place in the A final of the 800 free relay with a time of 7:05.62 while Moglin, junior Connor Broughton and freshmen Chase Bradshaw and Tevin Pak swam a 7:12.55 in the B final of the event.

The Panthers jump back in the pool tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. as they continue the SCIAC Championships.
