Relay team reaches podium on day two of SCIACs

COMMERCE, Calif. – Two school records fell and the women's 200 free relay team reached the podium on day of the SCIAC Swimming Championships in Commerce, Calif. After two days, the women's team sits in fourth place in the team standings and men's team is in seventh.

The Panthers ended the day with a couple of highlight swims in the 200 free relay. The women's team of sophomore Jailey Reeves, senior Sadie Wiens, senior Kristina Fong and junior Molly Davis shattered the school record set at last year's championship to take third place. The Panthers came in with a time of 1:36.97.

Reeves, Davis and Fong all swam the 50 free earlier in the consolation final as well. Reeves' 24.33 paced the Panthers and placed her 11th overall in the event. Davis took 14th with a 24.52 and Fong finished 18th with a 24.81.

Another school record fell in the men's relay as the Panthers took fifth place in the 200 free relay. Freshman Brandon Leu, sophomore Justin Lammert, junior Dominic DelliQuadri and freshman Michael Kulinich swam a half second faster than the previous record set a year ago with a time of 1:24.85.

Kulinich and Lammert both made the consolation finals of the 50 free as well, coming in 17th and 18th respectively. Kulinich swam a 21.59 and Lammert came in at 21.69.

Three more female swimmers qualified for the consolation finals on day two. Freshman Avery Tamusaitis won the 200 IM consolation final with a 2:10.18 to take 10th overall in the event. In the 500 free, junior Teresa Gerhold took 12th with a time of 5:17.71 and freshman Carina Laukaitis finished 18th with a time of 5:27.09.

The championship meet continues tomorrow with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The finals portion of the meet will end with the 400 medley relay.
