Swim & dive opens dual season at Oxy

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim teams competed against Occidental College at their first meet of the season this past weekend. Both teams posted strong showings with the women's team getting the 161.5-124.5 team win and the men's team falling 154-104.

Junior Gillian Logan made her Chapman debut with a winning time of 11:19.80 in the 1000-yard free, finishing seven seconds before any of her competitors. Freshman Charlene Chai also took home a win in her Panther debut with a time of 2:16.20 in the 200 fly.

Sophomore Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson's 1:01.16 took first in the 100 fly while the Panthers' 400 free relay team of senior Molly Davis, freshman Hannah Parulan, senior Teresa Gerhold and junior Jailey Reeves finished the meet with a winning time of 3:41.59. 

Sophomore William Cho had an impressive performance in the men's 100 breast, where he finished the event in first with a time of 1:02.30. He also took the win in the men's 500 free, finishing eight seconds before the next swimmer with a time of 4:58.15.  Sophomore Brandon Leu finished first in the men's 50 yard freestyle with a 21.96 and junior William Crewe took the win in the men's 200 yard breaststroke at 2:19.35.

Chapman swept the diving events with senior Katelyn Henderson winning the 1-meter competition and junior Olivia Guarino taking the win on the 3-meter board.

Chapman's dual season continues on Saturday with a trip to CMS for a meet at 11 a.m.
