Swim and dive teams come out strong against La Verne

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams competed in a tri-meet against La Verne and Mills College earlier this afternoon. The Panthers took first place finishes in 22 of the 26 events.

Chapman took home first through third place on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Freshman Mina Cannon took first place on the 3-meter board, followed by senior Roisin Cunningham and junior Olivia Guarino in second and third place respectively. On the 1-meter board, Guarino took first place while Cannon took second and Cunningham placed third.

Both the men's and women's 200 medley relays took first place. The foursome of sophomores Brandon Leu, William Cho and Chase Bradshaw and senior Dominic DelliQuadri came in first with a time of 1:42. 60, beating the second place team from La Verne by just eight tenths of a second. The women's relay team of freshmen Ashley Logan and Ella McShane, sophomore Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson and junior Gillian Logan took first place with a time of 1:58.73.

DelliQuadri was also on the 200 free relay team that took first place. He was joined by fellow classmate Nick O'Neill and juniors William Crewe and Jason Willman with a final time of 1:30.72. The women's 200 free relay "A" team also took first place. McShane and Tanizaki-Hudson were joined by freshmen Riley Brownfield and Hannah Parulan.

Brownfield also took first place in the 1650 free with a time of 18:22.76. Logan took first in the 100 breast with a final time of 1:13.42. Five more women saw first place finishes in a strong meet for the Panthers. Senior Molly Davis took first in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.38. Freshman Charlene Chai took first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:50.06 and senior Ally Haase won the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.97. Senior Katharine Buliga and junior Joanna Spyrou also took first in their respective events, with Buliga winning the 500 free with a time of 5:34.33 and Spyrou taking first in the 100 back at 1:06.31.

Freshman Michael Jung took first place in a couple of events in a strong meet. The rookie won the 200 free with a time of 1:48.68 and took first in the 100 fly at 54.10. Leu and Crewe also earned first place finished for the Panthers. Leu won the 100 free with a time of 50.06 while Crewe took first in the 100 back with a time of 53.92.

After a strong showing against La Verne and Mills, the Panthers return home to Allred Olympic Pool on Saturday, Feb. 1 to host Pomona-Pitzer at 11 a.m.
