Women in third, men in seventh after day two

COMMERCE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's swimming & diving team stayed in third and the men sit in in seventh after the second day of the SCIAC Championships. The women's team won two consolation finals to highlight the day.

The women increased their score to 252 points to stay in third place behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer, who pulled away from the pack but are separated by just 10 points at the top of the standings. The men have 127 points and fell one spot to seventh but are just behind Caltech and Occidental in sixth and fifth, respectively.

A pair of freshmen led the way for the Panthers at the SCIAC Championships. Riley Brownfield and Hannah Parulan each won their respective consolation finals to finish 10th overall in their events. Brownfield won her finals heat in the 500 free while Parulan won the 200 IM.

Brownfield led a "B" final dominated by Chapman swimmers. Panthers took five of the nine lanes in the pool for the 500 free consolation final with Brownfield's 5:11.33 winning the heat. Senior Teresa Gerhold came in fifth in the heat to get 14th overall and was followed by junior Gillian Logan in 15th. Senior Katherine Buliga took 17th and junior Carina Laukaitis took 18th.

Parulan led a 1-2 finish with sophomore Avery Tamusaitis in the consolation final for the 200 IM. The pair raced to the wall ahead of the field to take 10th and 11th overall. Parulan touched first at 2:10.71 – just a hair ahead of Tamusaitis at 2:10.77.

In the 50 free, senior Molly Davis took 13th overall with a 24.67 in the consolation final.

Junior William Crewe led the men's team and made the finals for the 200 IM. He swam a 1:52.55 to take fifth overall. He also swam the third leg of the men's 200 free relay that took sixth. The women's relay took fifth.
