Swim seniors celebrate last dual with win over Oxy

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams swept Occidental in the final dual meet of the 2021-22 season. Chapman took event wins in 14-of-26 events. The Chapman women won the dual against the Tigers 134-100 and the men's team won 103-82.

Freshman Avery Hall swept the freestyle sprints, taking the 50 free with a 25.03 and the 100 free with a 53.89. Junior Riley Brownfield kept Chapman on top of the freestyle events with a winning time of 2:00.1 in the 200 free. In the 500 free, Sophia Kelsey finished with a 5:31.95 to take the top spot.

The women's team also swept both relays with a winning time of 1:50.81 to start the day with a win in the 200 medley relay. They finished the day with a 1:40.93 to win the 200 free relay.

Bianca Bayer and Marah Kane rounded out the event wins to propel the women's team to a victory in the dual. Bayer led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM with a 2:14.36. Kane took the win in the 100 back with a 1:01.79.

The men's team finished off the day with a win in the 200 free relay – just beating Oxy's A team to the wall with a 1:28.33. Senior William Crewe won the 100 back for the second week in a row with a 53.07. Michael Jung took the 200 free with a 1:48.74 to lead another 1-2-3 Chapman finish.

Brandon Leung was another event winner for Chapman, taking the 200 IM with a 1:58.97. The Chapman men had another 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free as Zach Waddell led the sweep with a 4:39.12. Michael Garza took the 100 breast for Chapman, finishing in 1:01.11.

Championship season is up next for the Panthers. The divers head to the SCIAC Diving Championships next weekend while the swimmer prepare for the SCIAC Swimming Championships on Feb. 16-19 at Splash! in La Mirada, Calif.
