Kershner captures championship in day two
MONTEREY PARK, Calif — A championship victory for Cole Kershner in the 50 free headlined a day of three broken school records and three All-SCIAC finishes in Swimming & Diving's second day of the SCIAC Championships at East Los Angeles College.
Kershner's time of 20.46 was good enough to top the podium, and also shattered his previous school record of 20.6 which he set in the prelims. His time was an NCAA B-cut, and he became Chapman's second-ever men's champion.
The Low Tops kept it rolling with the 200 free relay team breaking a school record with a time of 1:23.99. Kershner, Noah Williams, Simon Jacobs, and Joseph Lafontaine helped the Panthers to the record-breaking relay.
Off of the diving board, Reid Omilian earned All-SCIAC honors placing third in the one-meter finals.
The High Tops saw success in the 200 free relay capturing All-SCIAC honors by reaching the podium in third place.
The relay team led by Meghan Kluck, Avery Hall, Annika Middlesteadt and Ryanne Doherty also notched a school record with a time of 1:36.06, smashing the previous record by nearly one second. All four swam in the consolation final of the 50 free and they all placed in the top-18.
Chapman will return to the East LA College pool tomorrow to continue the SCIAC Championships.
