Bio

Erik Sandvig joined the Chapman swimming & diving program as an assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season. As an alumnus, Sandvig returns to coach at his alma mater where he was also a four-year student-athlete.

He received his bachelor's in movement and exercise science with an emphasis in exercise physiology.  While at Chapman, he played water polo for four years (1997-00) and swam for two seasons (98-00) on the men's club team, under head coach Dennis Ploessel. Sandvig was a two time ACWPC All-American in water polo and set school records for goals in a career and a season at the time.  He currently holds the second-most career goals at Chapman University and still holds the record for goals per game average for a season as well as career shooting percentage.  Sandvig, also at the time, set several school records for the club swim team at Chapman. He looks forward to helping out back at a program that gave him so much.

Prior to joining the Chapman coaching ranks, Sandvig coached water polo and swimming at Cypress High School for over 15 years, where he continues to be the girls Head Swim Coach. His teams have been a part of winning 10 league championships and over 10 school records broken. He received a master's degree in Public Health from California State University, Long Beach in 2010. He currently is a Lieutenant Commander for the United State Public Health Service and does investigations with the United States Food and Drug Administration.
