Track and field opens at All Comers meet Saturday

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University men's and women's track and field team is set to open its 2015 season at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet on Feb. 21. The All Comers meet is the first of two meets preceding the Panthers' first conference competition at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 on March 7.

Chapman added men's track and field this spring as a varsity sport. The team will be led by junior distance runner Chris Reid, who finished the 2014 cross country season 35th out of 119 runners with a time of 26:33.8 in the 8-kilometer race at the NCAA Division III West Regionals last fall.

Reid will be helped out by junior long distance runners Hugo Flores and Nick Tudor.

The women's team will took to school record holder sophomore Cathryne Ramirez to lead the Panthers in the distance events. Ramirez set the school record last season in the 800 with a time of 2:25.85.

Expectations are also high for returning sophomore twins Alex Bliss and Alyssa Bliss who will both compete in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes as well as being a part of Chapman's 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay teams alongside junior sprinter Jaemi Mansfield.

Head coach Anna Wlodarczyk is faced with the challenge of a young roster that features only five three and four year returners, including two seniors. She will showcase her youthful roster on Saturday at the All Comers meet, scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
