Standout performances highlight Panthers' meet at Occidental

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's track and field team hit the track on Saturday in the second SCIAC multi-dual meet of the year, this time at the Bill Henry Track at Occidental. The Panthers lost to three teams in the field (Cal Lutheran, Occidental, and Redlands), but defeated Caltech while recording a few notable performances.

Junior sprinter Fiona Chu finished first in the women's 400 meters with a time of 59.06 breaking her own school record set last meet at the Oxy Distance Carnival. The junior has paced the record in her last three meets and continues to lead the Panthers' as a top finisher in the 200 meters with a time of 26.38.

Sophomore Cathryne Ramirez once again led Chapman's long distance runners in the 5000 meter run, finishing first with a time of 19.23. Freshman Nicole Greenberg finished fifth overall in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 13.06, while sophomore Alyssa Bliss finished first in her heat and eighth overall with a time of 13.42.  

For the men, sophomore Mitchell Bouldin was the top jumper in the men's long jump with a finish of 6.52 meters. Junior Rhett Ramirez set a personal best finishing fifth overall in the men's 400-meter dash with a mark of 51.40. And sophomore sprinter Johnny Michalik led the Panthers in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 23.71, while junior Jonathan Berk finished just .09 seconds behind Michalik with a mark of 23.80.

Chapman will travel to Claremont on Saturday, April 4 for the Pomona-Pitzer Invite beginning at 10 a.m. The Panthers will then return to Claremont the following week on Saturday, April 11 for SCIAC Multi-Dual #3.
