Weather challenges Panthers at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's track and field had many strong showings at the 30th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational despite unfavorable weather conditions on Saturday.

Setting another personal-best, junior Sam Baker paced the Panthers in the 800 meter run with a final time of 1:58.84 to finish third in his heat. The junior shaved a full second off his previous personal-record set last month at SCIAC No. 1.

Junior Ethan Weinstein paced the Panthers in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.31. Weinstein also led the Panthers in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 23.12.

The Panthers also placed first in the second session of the 4x100 meter relay with a final time of 44.51. The team consisted of sophomore Joe Mudie, Weinstein, and seniors Jonathan Berk and Nelson Gould.

Senior Ryan Coser also launched a personal-best in the discus improving to a final mark of 25.37.

On the women's side, freshman Mia Hernandez placed third in her heat in the women's 800 with a personal-best time of 2:30.05. Freshman Courtney Justus also contended well in the 100 meter hurdles with a final mark of 16.72 to finish third in her heat.

Competing in her first meet of the season, freshman Kellyn Toole took second in her heat in the high-jump with a personal best mark of 1.45 meters. Freshman Nika Cokas also participated in the women's 5000 meter for the first time finishing at a mark of 20.37.34.

Freshman Josie Chan displayed another strong performance in the women's triple jump with a final mark of 10.61 meters, just .10 meters of her personal best set the week before at SCIAC No. 2.

Chapman will compete next at SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 3 hosted by La Verne on Saturday, April 16. First race set for 11 a.m.
