Track & field teams open season with solid marks at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. –  After rain washed out the expected season-opener, the Chapman University track & field teams finally were able to get on the track for the Rossi Relays over the weekend. The Panthers saw some solid marks in the field events to highlight their opening meet.

Senior Mitchell Bouldin had the highest placing at the Panthers first meet. He took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.42 meters (21-feet, 0.75-inches). He also took 20th in the 100-meter dash with an 11.44. Sophomore Cedric Cole and freshman Eric Ortiz finished together in both the shot put and discus.

Cole took 11th in the discus with a toss of 37.32 meters (122-feet, 5-inches) while Ortiz took 12th with a 36.71. Cole and Ortiz also finished 18th and 19th in the shot put, respectively.

Freshman Lauren Miller led the women's team individually. She took 10th in the shot put in her Panther debut with a throw of 10.98 meters (36-fett, 0.25-inches). Freshman Miranda Safar took 17th in both the shot put and discus.

The women's 4x800 meter relay team led all the Panther relays with a 13th-place finish. The distance medley relay team took 18th. On the men's side, the 4x800 meter relay team placed 15th while the DMR team took 20th.
